Question 1

How is a degree classified in Australia?

Accepted Answer

The weighted average is matched against Australia's classification bands, from High Distinction average at the top down to the lowest passing band.

Question 2

How are years weighted in Australia?

Accepted Answer

Many institutions weight later years more heavily. Choose a year-weighting preset or enter your own weights, and the calculator normalises them so the average is correct even when they do not sum to 100.

Question 3

What does the distance to the next band mean?

Accepted Answer

It is the gap between your weighted average and the lower bound of the next higher classification, so you can see exactly how close you are to moving up a band.

Question 4

Do borderline rules apply in Australia?

Accepted Answer

Some institutions consider a mark within a small window of a boundary for the higher class. Borderline rules differ, so always check your own institution's regulations.
